Changes in Numeracy Requirements (2024 onwards):

The 2023-2025 University Entrance Requirements review brings forth a notable alteration in the numeracy component. This modification, aligned with the broader NCEA Change Programme slated for completion in 2027, introduces changes for the academic year 2024 and beyond.

The revised numeracy requirement mandates securing 10 credits at Level 1 or above, presenting two pathways:

  1. Co-requisite Unit Standards: Students can opt for completion of either Level 1 numeracy unit standard (US 32406) or Te Pāngarau unit standard (US 32412).

This commitment to inclusivity is underscored by aligning the review with key educational strategies such as Hikitia Ka Hāpaitia and the Action Plan for Pacific Education 2020–2030. Additionally, NZQA is committed to taking practical steps to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, recognizing the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

 

Consultation and Stakeholder Involvement:

Recognizing the potential impact of these changes, NZQA plans to conduct extensive consultations in late March 2024. This inclusive approach aims to gather diverse perspectives from students, educators, and other stakeholders, ensuring that the revised requirements align with the varied needs and aspirations of the education community.
