Massey Establishes Offshore Learning Facility in Partnership With Hainan University

Massey Establishes Offshore Learning Facility in Partnership With Hainan University Joining forces with the Hainan University of Haikou in Southern China, Massey University is launching an offshore learning centre for Massey students in China due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Participating in online classes delivered by Massey University, students will take their courses from Hainan University, which is regarded as one of China’s leading universities. Local learning support advisors will provide additional educational support.
Tere McGonagle-Daly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and Global Engagement, says the new learning centre at Hainan University is the second offshore learning centre for Massey University after the remote site at Nanjing University of Finance and Economics (NUFE) in late 2020.
“Our learning centre with NUFE was extremely popular with our students in China who cannot return to New Zealand due to Covid. All places were filled within three days of launch.  Our link with Hainan helps us to continue supporting students and deliver another excellent on-campus experience,” he added.
Professor Ye Guangliang, Vice President of Hainan University, says both universities consider this new learning centre a continuation of a long-term and fruitful venture for students from each centre.
Classes will be delivered from April this year to a group of new and continuing students from Massey College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Massey Business School through a wide range of online methods. All Massey students studying at the new learning centre will be able to use all of the same conveniences as Hainan’s regular students, such as sports facilities, library, and food outlets.
